Reefton Youth Centre

To build peer-support for teens in Reefton and empower them to make things happen.

The Reefton Youth Centre is a drug & alcohol free venue with an open door policy for youth from Year 7 and up, with the basic rule to respect each other and property.

The Centre offers a place to hang out, meet people, share problems and arrange things like discos & trips away to events.

The Centre has a small administrative committee with one person designated as coordinator, who runs it with volunteer helpers. It operates under the umbrella of the Reefton Gateway Trust, a charitable trust.  Last year substantial renovations were completed under the auspices of Reefton Rotary.

We now have a warm smart looking building with ample room for music, snooker, table tennis, basketball, cooking, painting, videos and Singstar.

The Centre is situated on 151 Buller Road and is open Friday nights during school term from 7 till 10pm . It is a hive of activity with 3 or more adult helpers and 30-40 regulars.

Reefton  Al-Anon Family Group

Millions of people are affected by the excessive drinking of someone close.

It is easy to see what the drinking is doing to the person we care about, but often dont see what is`s doing to us.

The Al-Anon Family Groups are an important source of help for anyone affected by someone else`s drinking. The groups made up

of family members and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength and hope with each other. All information shared is confidential and remains within the group.

By regularly attending and participating in Al-Anon meetings you will find healthy, positive ways of dealing with the difficulties that result from another`s alcoholism.

Even if the alcholic continues to drink, his or her relatives and friends can achieve serenity as a result of Al-Anon.

The Reefton Al-Anon Family Group meets 7pm, every Monday at the Reefton Hospital. For further details phone 0508 425 266 or visit www.al-anon.org.nz
