Reefton’s newest recreation space is officially ready for action, with the full-size 3×3 basketball court now fully lined and open for play. This exciting addition is the result of a collaborative effort between Buller District Council, Reefton Inc and Sport Tasman, all working together to deliver high-quality recreation opportunities for the community.
3×3 basketball is a fast-paced, social version of the game played on a single hoop with two teams of three. Games are typically played to 21 points or 10 minutes, whichever comes first, with a 12-second shot clock. After each score, possession changes and play resumes quickly, keeping games energetic and accessible for players of all ages and abilities.
The new court is part of a wider initiative to continue The Strand revitalisation, enhancing the range of recreational facilities available in town. Positioned alongside the disc golf course and new picnic tables, it creates a vibrant, welcoming space for locals and visitors to gather, play, and relax. You can buy basketballs at Reefton Sports.
