Reefton Guinea Pigs

The Reefton Guinea Pigs are a bit of a local legend – they’ve even been on TV’s Seven Sharp! This super cute group of guinea pigs delight visitors of all ages, offering a chance to observe their gentle nature and quirky behaviours up close from behind the fence.

Their welfare is top priority. Even though they’re called guinea pigs, they’re not actually pigs—and they definitely don’t eat like them! Food donations are encouraged, but please don’t bring them scraps like bones, eggshells, leftovers or anything cooked. Instead, they love raw veggies and fruits, fresh grass, or doc leaves.

They’re quite shy, so please don’t try to handle or touch them, but if you stand by the fence, they’ll often come out to say hello. These little creatures prefer dry weather and will retreat indoors if it’s raining and head to bed at dusk, so please respect their routine.

The guinea pigs live on private property, so entry through the gate without permission is not allowed. However, for a closer experience, you can contact Tai by phone or text to arrange a tour.
