Reefton’s walking and cycling trails are now easier to find, with the Reefton Trail Collective launching a new website bringing together trail information for locals and visitors.

The new website, www.reeftontrailcollective.co.nz, provides a central place to find information about trails around Reefton and the wider area, including route descriptions, photos, GPX files and other useful information to help people choose a track and plan their outing.

The Explore the Tracks section brings together a growing collection of local walking and cycling routes, from short walks close to town through to longer backcountry and historic mining routes.

“We wanted to make it easier for people to find out what’s actually here,” says Reefton Trail Collective Vice-Chair Tara Papworth. “There are some fantastic places to walk and ride around Reefton, but information has often been spread across different places or relied on local knowledge. The website gives people a simple starting point to find a track that suits them.”

The website also includes a dedicated Tour Aotearoa section, with information to help riders plan their stop in Reefton. Reefton is a key point on the 3000km Tour Aotearoa bikepacking route, with riders able to choose between the Big River route and the State Highway option.

The Collective is encouraging people who use the trails to contribute to the growing resource by sharing current trail conditions, photos and other useful trail information through the website.

“Trail information can change, so we’re keen for people to let us know what they find when they’re out there,” says Papworth. “If you’ve been on a track recently and have some useful trail intel, we’d love to hear from you.”

The website will continue to develop over time as more information is added and existing information is updated.
