Gold Rush grand dame and ghostly ghoul, the “Madame of Merrijigs”, has drifted from the old Merrijigs Hotel site and is once again leading unwary TA riders astray. With expensive taste and unfinished business, she’s far better at raising spirits than resting them.
She’s been known to frequent places in Reefton where meals are plated, pints are poured, and pantry shelves are plentiful. Find her portrait, snap a selfie (in your bike helmet), then share it on Facebook or Instagram and tag @reeftontrailcollective (or email it to reeftontrailcollective@gmail.com) so we know you’ve met the Madame and you’ll be in with a chance to win a reward.
And if you’re passing the old Merrijigs Hotel site, keep your wits about you… the Madame does enjoy a familiar haunt. 👻🚲

• Eligibility:
Open to all 2026 Tour Aotearoa Riders.
• How to Enter:
Find a picture of The Madame and take a selfie with your bike helmet on. Email your selfie with The Madame to reeftontrailcollective@gmail.com or post it on Facebook or Instagram with the privacy setting on public and tag @reeftontrailcollective.
• Ownership and Usage Rights:
By entering, you grant Reefton Trail Collective permission to use your photo in promotional activities, including but not limited to social media, print materials, and digital campaigns. You retain full copyright ownership of your photo.
• Entry Acceptance Criteria:
Entries must show you/your group in a bike helmet(s) with The Madame of Merrijigs picture to be accepted. Once accepted, every entry has an equal chance to win. Reefton Trail Collective’s acceptance decisions and the final prize draw are final.
• Prize:
One prize of a $100 prezzy card generously sponsored by Reefton Inc.
• Winner Notification:
The winner will be drawn on 10 April 2026 and contacted via the email or social media platform used to submit their photo.
• Competition Dates:
The competition runs from 27 February 2026, to 9 April 2026. Entries submitted outside of these dates will not be considered.
• Disqualification:
Photos that do not comply with the entry guidelines, are deemed offensive, or are submitted without appropriate permissions may be disqualified.
• Privacy:
Personal information provided will only be used for competition-related purposes and will not be shared with third parties.
• Liability:
Reefton Trail Collective accepts no responsibility for lost, delayed, or incomplete entries. Entrants must make sure they have permission to share images of any individuals featured in their photos.
• Modification or Cancellation:
Reefton Trail Collective reserves the right to modify or cancel the competition if unforeseen circumstances arise.
